The situations in these section relates to computers, technology, or the Internet. This is because this sections all focus on intellectual property and how it’s hard to stop piracy on the Internet and other means of publication. New idea I can add on the issue presented in the reading is how companies should employ people that will browse the web and remove any of its property that is being exploited.

I agree with the reading, because the reading focused and talked about regulations that are made to protect others property. New conclusion I can draw about the reading is how DRM prevents fair uses as well as infringing uses. Also that DRM which is to protect companies does not really protect them which make it hard to prevent people from copying reproducing others work.

6.       (Evaluation) Address all that apply. Judge whether or not this topic is relevant in today’s society? Evaluate why you are viewing the topic in this manner based on your experiences. This topic is very relevant in today’s society because of the in-depth explanation made about how piracy is on the raise and how most companies are losing income than to make income. I am viewing this topic in this manner due to past experience with downloading music from the web without paying. After reading this chapter I
Have gained the knowledge about how downloading a video or music with a copyright protection on is illegal and I can face sentence up to 7 years.

chapter 3: Freedom of speech

Name: Edmund Barfour                                                                                               Class time: MWF 12:00
KEEP THIS TO 1-3 – PAGES LONG (excluding reference page)

Author: Sara Baase
Date of Publication:
Book: A gift of Fire
Sections read: 3.1 to 3.3

1.       (Knowledge)Tell three interesting elements of this chapter:
a.       The government grant broadcasting license.
b.       Cable operators have more freedom of speech than television and radio broadcasters.
c.        Free-speech issues due to censorship.

2.       (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?

This section of the chapter talks about freedom of speech how there are regulations to communications media and the Internet that prevent us from our right of speech. Also, these sections show some laws and government agencies that enforces regulations on media communication and the Internet. Moreover, this section focuses on regulations that protect children on the internet such as COPA.

3.       (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced – be specific and explain?

A specific example for this type of problem I have experienced would be browsing the web for video and they are regulations that require you to be 18 years to view the video due to the content the video might contain.

4.       (Analysis)Address ANY that apply. How can you compare one of the situations in this chapter to something that does not relate to computers, technology, or the Internet? Be sure to reference the chapter and your solution. What ideas NEW can you add to the issue that is being presented within the reading? Try to connect what you have by reading this article and how it applies to the stages in Bloom's taxonomy in 2 full sentences.

The situations in these section relates to computers, technology, or the Internet. This is because this sections all focus on regulations and how they might protect or violate our rights. New idea I can add on the issue presented in the reading is how there should be regulations on Ads on the Internet that may content explicit content.

5.       (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)?  What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?

I agree with the reading, because the reading focused and talked about regulations that are made to protect certain rights but do not follow the first Amendment. New conclusion I can draw about the reading is how The First Amendment was written precisely for offensive and/or controversial speech and ideas, but there are regulations the government have put in place in order to increase their power and censor certain speech made on the internet.

6.       (Evaluation) Address all that apply. Judge whether or not this topic is relevant in today’s society? Evaluate why you are viewing the topic in this manner based on your experiences. What ethical evaluations (see Chap1-1.4 for exp of Ethics) or decisions were made/can be assumed from this chapter?  What new ideas will you make after reading this chapter?

This topic is very relevant in today’s society because of the in-depth explanation made about most of the regulation that are placed by the government to protect our rights. I am viewing this topic in this manner due to past experience with the internet Ads that pops out on the screen of my computer which sometimes contain explicit content that are offensive. The ethical evaluation made in the reading is how others First Amendment rights are being violated due to censorships.
