1. (Knowledge)Tell three interesting elements of this chapter:
a. More jobs have being created since ATM was introduced.
b. Banks have open more hours after ATM was introduced.
c. Changes in technology usually require adaptive changes in laws, social institutions, business policies, and personal skills, attitudes, and behavior.
2. (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?
This section of the book explains the pros and cons of technology by observing various sources that technology plays a major part in. Also discuss a variety of ethical view that relates to technologies such as utilitarianism, natural rights and Deontological theories which emphasize duty and absolute rules, to be followed whether they lead to good or ill consequences in particular cases.
3. (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced – BE SPECIFIC AND EXPLAIN?
The book states “We can make a personal choice, for example, about whether to give out our e-mail address or other personal information, according to our individual values and situation.” From my perspective the way our society depends on technology makes it hard for an individual to make a personal choice not to give out their e-mail address, but again the choice is ours. Similar situations I have experience that was discussed in this situation are errors with my account transactions, this happened when my account debited twice on one purchase. The procedure to recover my money back was a hustle and that is a disadvantage about technology.
4. (Analysis)Address ANY that apply. How can you compare one of the situations in this chapter to something that does not relate to computers, technology, or the Internet? Be sure to reference the chapter and your solution. What ideas NEW can you add to the issue that is being presented within the reading? Try to connect what you have by reading this article and how it applies to the stages in Bloom's taxonomy in 2 full sentences.
Though I thought Deontological theories had no relation to computers, technology, or the Internet, it actually does in a way that it states we should follow rules of behavior that we can universally apply to everyone, and this explain how we accept technological changes. The new idea of how technology makes us more dependent and less active. With much enhanced technology programs that we rely on makes us socialize less in person than on the Internet.
5. (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)? What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?
I agree with what was said in this book because technology has both advantages and disadvantages as stated in the book technology such as the ATM took away jobs and created jobs also in certain areas. After reading this article I drew the conclusion on people’s preference on whether to adjust to new technology or not to adjust.
6. (Evaluation) Address all that apply. Judge whether or not this topic is relevant in today’s society? Evaluate why you are viewing the topic in this manner based on your experiences. What ethical evaluations (see Chap1-1.4 for exp of Ethics) or decisions were made/can be assumed from this chapter? What new ideas will you make after reading this chapter?
The topics in this chapter are much relevant in today’s society. I am viewing this topic in this manner based on my experience with ATM errors. Ethical evaluation such as Deontological theories, utilitarianism, and natural rights can be made from this chapter.
