GMO's: Assignment 1
1) Remember when you were a tour guide for an Alien? The Alien is back and wants to understand what a GMO is. Explain this information to the Alien.
· GMO’s are the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are placed in plants or animals.
2) State the controversy associated with GMO’s.
· The controversy associated with GMO’s are how there are linked to toxic and allergic reactions and can affect the organs of the consumer.
3) Are people’s reactions to GMO’s different in various regions of the world?
Explain with references.
Explain with references.
· Yes people’s reactions are different in various regions in the world, an example is how in Europe some countries support GMO’s and others do not. Also how in the article GMO’s divide Europe it states that only “six EU countries allow MON810 maize be grown on their soil.” On like in America where GMO’s are grown in their soil and produces more crops with GMO’s as Layton states in the article “FDA rules won’t require salmon’s labels.
4) What’s your reaction to this topic? Explain with references.
· I was amazed by how GMO’s has impact cultivation of crops, and the mechanics of how there are injected for faster growth or to enhance certain nutrients in vegetables and fruits. Also, in the article “GMO Basics” states that “GMO’s are linked to toxic and allergic reactions” this makes GMO’s do more harm than good.
5) Can GMO’s be changed? Should they be changed? Explain with references.
· GMO’s cannot be changed base on the fact that in the article “Genetically Modified Food and Organism” states how rice with increased iron and vitamins alleviate chronic malnutrition in Asia countries, this shows how in certain region of the world benefit from GMO’s while other countries don’t think it’s of significant.
6) While reading "
· Environmental Dangers and GMO Health Risks. The information provided in this tabs affected my thoughts about GMO’s is how GM injected gene can create super diseases.
7) Typing out the exact quote from any of the readings (and referencing it) list one powerful statement that you read.
· “Genetically modified foods have been linked to toxic and allergic reactions, sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ studied in lab animals.” Institute for Responsible Technology, GMO Basics. http://www.responsibletechnology.org/gmo-basicshttp://www.responsibletechnology.org/gmo-basics
· This quote is powerful because it summarized the danger of GMO’s in one sentence. Also, the quote shows the danger of GMO’s and how they can affect people due to studies performed on lab animals.
